Bates Wilder is a veteran instructor at CP casting, a private coach, and a part time instructor of acting at Emerson College. Bates has been a professional Actor for 20 plus years now. He's worked in hundreds of commercials both regional and national. He's also appeared in many television programs as well as minor roles in a handful of films. Currently Bates can be seen on Showtimes' "Brotherhood" as Jimmy Martinson, the ne'er-do-well brother-in-law with a good heart but not a lot of common sense. Bates has received rave reviews all across New England for his acting work and most recently received the Independent Reviewers of New England (I.R.N.E) award for "Best Actor in a Drama" 2007 for his role in the New Reperatory theatres' production of "Frozen".

Here's a question I get a lot about Basics of Acting classes:

I have a lack of confidence problem and often have trouble thinking or being "outside the box." I am wondering if an acting class may help me gain the confidence or at least help me with <insert your job here.> My facial expressions and my body language do not always project how I am feeling. I know of some people who take acting courses to get away from their shyness and help them "perform" better at work. Is the Basics of Acting class JUST for people who want to be a actors?

Here's the answer: NO, the Basics of Acting classes are NOT just for people who want to pursue acting as a career. It's a perfect class for building your confidence, and will help people from all kinds of different occupations -- AND -- It will help in all kinds of public speaking situations, whether your speaking to 2 people or 200 people!

Here's what some students recently said about their experience:

----

I very much enjoyed this class and have recommended it to others who are interested in peaking that "acting curiosity". Bates had a unique way of creating an environment of learning and sharing that established a safety and mutual respect among - we the actors. Our dedicated instructor emulated his love for acting and made each one of us an active participant during each and every class. I plan to pursue acting as a career, and I have my fellow students and Bates to thank for the amazing experience and unforgettable time that was - "Basics of Acting"!
